Stereo3D Text Generator

3D Text Generator 1

To access the 3D Text Generator, select the Effects Tab → Video Generators → Dashwood Stereo3D Toolbox → 3D Text Generator

The 3D Text Generator is a tool included in Stereo3D Toolbox that allows users to create text and adjust it’s position in 3D space. This tool can be used for full screen titles, lower 3rd text, rolling credits, subtitles, etc. The generator can be used on its own or placed on upper video layers. All controls can be keyframed, including convergence and x and y positions.

Initial Setup
By default, the 3D Text Generator is set to side-by-side output and the text has a red outline. The user has complete customizable control over these settings to fit their needs.

It is important to set the Stereo3D Output Mode before previewing the text to ensure it’s in the same format as the rest of the project. If the user has been selecting “Use Global Output Mode” on the other clips on the timeline, the same can be selected in the 3D Text Generator. This is the easiest method and ensures consistency throughout the timeline. Otherwise, simply select the desired output mode from the menu.Edit Text Field in Stereo3D Toolbox

Text Field
To edit the text the user must select the “Edit” button under the text field. This will open a new window in which the user is able to type the desired content or import a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file that has already been created. Importing a pre-typed file is useful for large bodies of text, such as subtitles.

Font
By unveiling the Font tab the user is able to change typeface and control size and kerning of the text. The generator presents all fonts installed on the system so the user is able to take advantage of custom fonts.

The user is able to control the font size and kerning by adjusting the sliders or entering a custom numerical value.

Alignment control is found under the size and kerning sliders in a menu format.3D Text Generator 3

Convergence & Position Controls

The next step is to place the text in the desired position. The Depth Position/Convergence control allows the user to position the text on the z-axis, in other terms, where it appears in relation to the screen plane. Adjusting the Depth Position/Convergence won’t affect the size of the text. It is best to actively preview the adjustments on a 3D monitor to ensure the text isn’t competing or interfering with stereoscopic content in lower video layers.

The X-Position and Y-Position controls allow the user to move the text along the specified axis.

Fill, Stroke & Drop Shadow
The user is able to control Fill Color, Fill Opacity, Stroke Width, Stroke Color and Stroke Opacity in their respective adjustment controls.

The user is also able to create a drop shadow for the text with complete customizable control.
